Thumbs up for bio-fuels as 'Jatropha beats fossil diesel in economy'

The movement for bio-fuels has got a shot in the arm with the neat (B100) jatropha biodiesel developed by scientists of Central Salt and Marine Chemicals Research Institute (CSMCRI) at Bhavnagar showing better fuel economy than fossil diesel besides proving to be safer. CSMCRI is a national laboratory working under Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) New Delhi.A performance evaluation study of neat (B100) jatropha biodiesel and fossil diesel recently was conducted by Indian Institute of Petroleum (IIP), Dehradun, one of the national laboratories of CSIR.The analysis of the study found that neat (B100) jatropha biodiesel showed better fuel economy, vis-a-vis fossil diesel," CSMCRI director P K Ghosh told press.
