Dear Editor, Membership in the Society of Flavor Chemists (SFC) is an honored and treasured privilege. For those of us who are fully certified or are of emeritus status, it is a badge of honor which we do indeed wear with pride. Membership into the Society of Flavor Chemists is granted only after fulfilling stringent time and training requirements, and by successfully passing a written and an oral exam. The United States is the only country in the world who certifies flavor chemists and our intent is to insure that our members possess the compulsory knowledge and skills, as outlined in our by-laws. Once an individual is a member of the SFC there are additional requirements both to achieve and to maintain being a member in good standing.
