From the Farm - food safety starts at the farm

Because this is such an important topic and needs to be addressed from the farm through the cleaning plant to the sheller and on to the retailer, I feel that more time and attention needs to be given it. At the farm level much more needs to be done toaddress sanitation in the field. Portable toilets and wash facilities for employees at remote locations, restriction of wildlife access to fields, sanitation of equipment, proper uses of fertilizers and pesticides and disposal of the containers, the proper handling of livestock and applied manure are some of the major things that need to be done correctly to reduce chances of contamination at the farm level.
