Native pecans respond to weather extremes

Alternate bearing is an old topic that has been the subject of numerous scientific studies and articles in Pecan South. Today, most growers have a pretty good understanding of the phenomenon. Even the folks in town know that the native pecan tree in the back yard will only have a crop every other year. But over the last few years, following a series of weather related disasters, our native trees have responded in ways that provide some interesting insights about how trees balance shoot growth and crop load from year to year.
