USDA preliminary summary puts crop at 349 million

Released on Jan. 23, 2008, USDA's preliminary summary of the current pecan crop has total U.S. production at 349 million pounds, inshell. The previous estimate from December was 334 million pounds. Almost all of the increase since the previous projection was for the state of Georgia, which went up by 15 million (10 million for improved and 5 million for seedlings). Other changes includes a slight increase for Arkansas and a slight decrease for California. Kansas and North Carolina also dropped by a small amount in the latest report.
