CHEMICALS output in Germany increased 4.2% in the first quarter of 2014 with revenues up by 5% to ?46.8bn, compared with the same period a year ago, according to a report by German chemicals trade group Verband der Chemischen Industrie (VCI). Although domestic sales rose 3%, the foreign demand for chemicals dropped 1.5%, primarily affected by the US and Asian markets. Chemical prices were down 2.4% compared with the same period of 2013. VCI president Karl-Ludwig Kley said: "The sentiment in the companies is cautiously optimistic, inter alia, because of the positive trends in the euro zone.
