NANOTECHNOLOGY is the today's buzz-word and whether we realize it or not, but it's a nano world. Many everyday consumer items now utilize the emerging science of nanotechnology. It is to mention that even laundry detergents, soaps, water filters and washing machines also employ nanotechnology. Nanoparticles are atoms and molecules 80,000 times smaller than the width of a human hair, with various properties according to their composition, which explains their widespread usage. Nanotechnology, the science of the extremely tiny (one nanometre is one-billionth of a metre), is an important emerging industry with a projected annual market of around one trillion US dollars by 2015. It involves the control of atoms and molecules to create new materials with a variety of useful functions, including many that could be exceptionally beneficial in medicine. Nanotechnology is already playing a great role in the industry from, durable paint, water purification, faster computers, tougher shoe soles, plastics, and lighter and cheaper televisions. Further development in the methodology for dispersing nanoparticles through plastic could also be applied to encapsulating drugs into plastic casings so that they could be ingested and used for cancer detection and destruction.
