A bone to pick: Homegrown pinbone-picking machine looking for a manufacturer

Tim Manning has held more salmon fillets in his callused hands than perhaps any other machinist in the world. Some fillets were fresh and firm; some were captured close to their spawning grounds and had flesh the consistency of peanut butter. All of them had pesky bones left behind after the fish were filleted. Working for the University of Alaska in Fairbanks, Manning has hit the road several times with his shop's table-saw-size invention known as the Pin-bone Wizard, traveling to Seattle, Anchorage, and the Alaska fishing ports of Dillingham, Petersburg, and the Kenai Peninsula.
