摘要

Fishery managers are plowing ahead with regulations that will change how pollock is harvested off Alaska. Staff members for the North Pacific Fishery Management Council released their draft environmental impact statement a few weeks ago detailing consequences of several strategies to reduce Chinook bycatch by the pollock fleet. The Alaska pollock fishery is the nation's largest by volume. The bycatch issue has been near the top of the North Pacific Fishery Management Council's agenda since 2007, when a record-breaking 122,000 Chinook were charged as bycatch against the pollock fleet.
