Bill Webber is still busy making a living by direct marketing Copper River salmon to his nationwide network of clientele. The following, however, are excerpts from his regular and ongoing correspondence with clients. Webber believes, and properly so,that informing his customers about the condition and progress of his fishery gives them a sense of ownership in the process, along with a new understanding and appreciation of the product and service he provides. This should give you some idea of how personal his business relationships with his customers are. As you may have heard, the first period was very slow fishing on the delta. I fielded many e-mails and phone calls Monday from markets all around the country today while out fishing, and I think many of them are going to be dismayed as they won't get the product they were hopeful of.
