After 17 months, still no report on deadly Bering Sea sinking

A report into the fatal sinking of a Bering Sea factory trawler — a document once promised by the end of 2008 — may be released nearer to the end of 2009. The 189-foot Alaska Ranger sank to the bottom of the Bering Sea early on Easter morning — March 23,2008. Five men were.killed. In less than a week, the Coast Guard and the National Transportation Safety Board had convened a Marine Board of Investigation in Dutch Harbor. Other hearings were held in. Anchorage and Seattle. Capt. Mike Rand, chairman of the marine board, initially said a final report would be released by the end of the year. When that didn't happen, Rand then set a target date of March 23, 2009, the anniversary of the fatal sinking.
