Innovators in Sustainability: AASHE Honors Campus Sustainability Champions

The Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) announced the winners of its 2011 Sustainability Awards at its annual conference in October. Honoring the leadership of faculty, campuses, and students for innovations in green building, sustainability research, and leadership, the 2011 awards illustrate the growth and strength of the higher education sustainability movement. Two new award categories were added this year: the Innovation in Green Building Award, presented in partnership with the U.S. Green Building Council's Center for Green Schools; and the inaugural Faculty Sustainability Leadership Award, recognizing the contributions that have been made by an individual instructor or professor to increasing the breadth and depth of sustainability education. AASHE s 2011 awards were sponsored by Trane, a leading global provider of indoor comfort systems and services and a brand of Ingersoll Rand.
