The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is issuing new national air-quality standards for nitrogen dioxide (NO2) that include increased monitoring of NO2 levels. The agency set the new standard at a level of 100 parts per billion in one hour's time. New NO2 monitors, which will be placed in urban and congested areas, are due to begin operating no later than Jan. 1,2013.
