Paint Contractors Arrested

An annual sting by the California Contractors State License Board (CSLB) yielded solid if dispiriting results: The board uncovered nine contractors operating without licenses, three of whom had bid on painting jobs. The sting, a joint operation aided by the Kern County district attorney's office and the Bear Valley Police Department, involved asking contractors who were suspected of being unlicensed to provide quotes above what they are legally allowed to charge. One of the nine, according to the license board, had an active $110,000 felony warrant, and another was already on probation for similar infractions. One suspect was operating his business despite having a suspended driver's license, and another had apparently never obtained a driver's license. The suspect with the active felony warrant was wanted for "assault with a deadly weapon," according to the CSLB.
