General environmental controls, which include confined spaces and lockout/tagout standards, supplanted hazardous materials as the most frequently cited hazard at ethanol plants during 2012. According to statistics compiled by Albert Patin, South Dakota State University (SDSU), Brookings (605-688-4101), from public access records at the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), there were 79 general industry citations documented by OSHA during 2012.
