Market experts estimate the potential of nanoparticles to be overwhelming. Demand for nanoparticles is projected to increase dramatically [1]. This view is understandable in the light of the possibilities nanoparticles offer to applications: For instance, nanosized ZnO particles, as well as nanosized TiO{sub}2 find use in coating formulations, as it improves scratch resistance as well as UV- blocking. In the end, one arrives at the conclusion that Nano-materials cannot be used directly into applications. According to a Frost and Sullivan-Report [2] there are several challenges to be overcome before nano-technology based solutions become viable. The real problem lies with the process of dispersion of these nano-materials into solvents. So, standard off-the-shelf products often won't work with formulations of the final product. It is the main goal of this article, to explain why standard off-the-shelf-products do not work, and also to introduce the solution, gained by tailoring nanoparticles to a given product formulation.
