We made the electronic ballast for the 150W High Intensity Discharge lamp already commercialized lighter and more compact by developing a new circuit system. It conforms to Class C of the higher harmonics suppression guideline and can supply constant power in the wide range of AC90V to AC220V. This conformity to higher harmonics suppression and the output power regulating function were realized through a 1-stage higher harmonics conversion configuration combining a fly back converter and harmonic energy rectification design, or a type of passive filter. We also improved the output stage low frequency bridge inverter control and driving circuit, allowing stable square wave output to be achieved with one single ended pulse signal. By adopting this new circuit system and by means of the optimum heat radiation structure, the compactness, outside dimensions of 238(W) × 100(D) × 72(H) and light weight of 1.5kg were achieved.
