摘要

High Performance Thin Layer Chromatography (HPTLC) is recognized as one among the most simple separation techniques today available to the analyst when dealing with complex mixtures having closely associated constituents. The technique is unique thatit provides faster separation of constituents with high resolution. HPTLC is a major advancement of TLC principle requiring shorter time and better resolution. Simultaneous analysis of sample and standard are possible with HPTLC and this would not be possible with other analytical instruments like HPLC, FTIR, UV, LC-MS, and GC-MS etc. It can be considered a time machine that can speed up the work and allows doing many things at a time usually not possible with other analytical techniques. The advantagesof automation, scanning, full optimization, application of selective detection principle, minimum sample preparation time, hyphenation, etc. enable it to be a powerful chromatographic analytical tool for complex mixtures of inorganic, organic, and bio-molecules.
