The focus of this issue is Body Imaging. I am taking a different approach in my Letter from the Editor to talk about body image. The term body image was first coined by the Austrian neurologist and psychoanalyst Paul Schilder in his book The Image and Appearance of the Human Body. In 2003, an international peer-reviewed journal, Body Image: An International Journal of Research, was established to publish high-quality scientific articles on body image and human physical appearance.An editorial was published in the inaugural issue that described the journal's rationale and mission in relation to the history and future of the study of body image and human appearance.
