摘要

In solving several kinds .of coupled problems of elastic continuum the universal concept of energy balance has been applied to take into account the interaction of fields of mechanical and non-mechanical origins. This is also prevalent in the fracture mechanics and other problems in electro-elasticity. Recent papers of Kumar and Singh (1,2) (and related papers) have shown, however, that a misinterpretation of fundamentals of energy balance in quasi-static coupled problems can lead to incorrect results.
