Fraudulent reporting and bribery have become the latest hurdles challenging the nation's efforts to tackle steel overcapacity, China's state media reported Tuesday. In Shijiazhuang, Hebei province, several lower-level officials are being investigated, with at least one having already been sentenced to eight-and-a-half years in prison, for accepting millions of yuan in "gratitude fees," which allowed companies to falsely report capacity cuts in order to qualify for central government compensation, the official Xinhua News Agencysaid.
