WHERE IS THE HOG CYCLE AT?

There's little predicting the hog cycle in the past decade and that's tough for all involved. IN CANADA, after five decent years back from 1991 to 1995 (Table I), the hog cycle has been a roller coaster ride with two years up and two years down. The end of 2007 marks the end of the second year of poor hog prices in Canada. Yet the U.S. pork producers are saying they just came off the best two years of profits in a long time. U.S. corn prices were pretty low in the past couple of years which played apretty big role in those calculations.
