EUTHANASIA OF LIVESTOCK IS a |U| but real part of farm life. Euthanasia methods need the safe for the operator as well as effective. For the past 10 years, researchers led by Prof. Tina Widowski of the Department of Animal and Poultry Science and director for the Campbell centte for the Study of Animal Welfare at the University of Guelph, have been developing a device called the Zephyr-E Non-Penetrating Captive Bolt. The technology is now available commercially to poultry and swine farmers.
