Higher finding and development costs,higher drilling costs,and higher operating costs,combined with lower natural gas prices,could have resulted in a financial train wreck for Canada's oil and gas producers in 2006.High oil prices and better returns on heavy crude oil and bitumen,however,managed to soften the blow considerably.
