Gas hydrates

The Mackenzie Delta is home to som of the thickest and most abundant gas hydrate deposits in the world. The gas hydrates are frozen, compressed methane found under the permafrost. The permafrost allows stable hydrates to form at depths of 200- to 1,500 meters, in layers averaging less than 50 meters thick.
