Plains closes offshore deals with BP, Shell

Houston-based Plains Exploration & Production Co. (NYSE: PXP) closed its acquisition of interests in certain deepwater Gulf of Mexico oil and gas properties from BP Exploration & Production Inc. and BP America Production Co. for some $5.5 billion. In addition, Plains closed its purchase of certain oil and natural gas interests in Holstein Field in the Gulf of Mexico from Shell Offshore Inc. for some $560 million.
