Global oil and gas transactions up $87 billion in 2010

Oil and gas deals in the E&P sector totaled some $73 billion in the fourth quarter of 2010, and the annual total came in at about $238 billion—up from $151 billion in 2009—according to global oil and gas analysis firm Evaluate Energy Ltd. The London-based firm's data show the total deal value in fourth-quarter 2010 was second only to third-quarter 2010 in recent years, and even beat the last quarter of 2009, which included ExxonMobil Corp.'s blockbuster $41-billion purchase of XTO Energy Inc.
