Many thanks for your advice on ungrading my kiln controls in your Q and A column. The 'Mugs for Builders' article in CR 187 has thrown up a new one. I am about to build an extension to my house, digging up large skiploads of subsoil in the process. Aside from the cost involved in carting lorry loads of earth away and paying a large landfill charge, it goes against my principles to waste anything by just throwing it into a big hole. I would love to be able to convince my partner that it would be a good idea to live with a spoil heap in the back garden while I devise a way of recycling it.
