In an article on ceramics in the landscape (CR184) I made reference to Karin Hessenberg's Ceramics for Gardens and Landscapes, (A&C Black). There has been criticism of the uncritical nature of reviews in Ceramic Review. Writing reviews involves walking a very fine wire. One wants to give a true impression of the book or exhibition for other readers or buyers. Similarly one does not want to upset the publishers, whose advertisements are often the life blood of a small publication.Alternatively one could plunge in, Julie Burchill-like, and wait for the letters to come pouring in. At least that would liven up debate.
