摘要

Against the prevailing trend of Japonesque minimal restraint the decorative technique of lustre has relied upon a few individuals to maintain its presence. In the early 1970s there were really only three practitioners working in the technique of reduced pigment lustre on the international scene. To these pioneers we owe a debt of thanks for disseminating their discoveries and revitalizing what was a dying art.Professor Said El Sadr of Cairo encouraged and inspired Australian potter Dr Alan Peascod who in turn taught countless pupils of the technique. Alan Caiger-Smith (UK) has contributed most to the revival of pre-industrial lustre techniques and influenced a broader application of post-industrial skills through his ceramic work and publication Lustre Pottery - Technique, Tradition and Innovation in Islam and the Western World.
