Demand for coal, which plummeted in the autumn of 2008 owing to the world financial crisis, is beginning to stabilize but is still a long way form a total resurgence, the CEO of Siberian Coal and Energy Company (SUEK), Vladimir Rashevsky, told journalists on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg Economic Forum. "For the coal sector three factors are important: demand, the metallurgical, electricity sectors and exports. There is no total resurgence in metallurgy but rather a normalization of coal demand. This is very good news and we understand that supply to the metallurgical sector is beginning to stabilize. In electrical power, the decline in demand was irregularly deep. Such a long and deep drop is practically impossible. Therefore, electricity [demand] sooner or later will start to recover," Rashevsky said.
