We appreciate the comments by Mungo et al regarding our recent publication. They highlight an important consideration for health care providers in low-income and middle-income countries who perform see-and-treat cervical cancer screening. Although we agree that thought must be given to the possible reproductive implications of overtreatment, the cervical cancer incidence and mortality rate of individual populations must be taken into account as well. Continued investigation into the reproductive risks after loop electrosurgical excision procedure is necessary given our novel findings. Ultimately, patient counseling concerning risks and benefits of see-and-treat screening should remain a priority.
