The primary aim of the essay was to illustrate concisely some of the more dramatic ways in which bad policy harms all aspects of our specialty, to engage as many women's health care providers as possible.11 used exceptional examples because they command attention and convey the urgency of the situation. Ms. Payne chooses to focus her argument on abortion policy, which is indeed a highly important issue for women, but I felt it imperative to keep my discussion purposefully broad. I absolutely agree that we must protect access to safe abortion services for all women, not just for the more unusual cases mentioned in the essay. But,
