I read with great interest the article written by Byeon et al titled "New insights into the pathoanatomy of diabetic macular edema: angiographic patterns and optical coherence tomography."1 The authors consider in the discussion the Muller cell death described previously in the diabetic macular edema as a possible postmortem change in the preparation or fixation of the histologic specimen and not as an early change in the pathoanatomic evolution of diabetic retinopathy.
