A sutureless contact lens fixation method for pars plana vitrectomy

We have developed a practical and inexpensive alternative fixation method for self-stabilizing contact lenses used for pars plana vitrectomy. The described method incorporates the advantages of sutureless rings and handheld contact lens systems.Although noncontact wide-angle viewing systems are popular today, many vitreoretinal surgeons still prefer contact lenses because they provide more clear images, better stereopsis, and wider angle of view. Several ring systems are developed so far for the use of contact lens systems without a surgical assistant who holds the lens in place.
