Occurrences of lamprophyric rocks in Greece

In spite of the fact that lamprophyres are uncommon igneous rocks, fifteen (possibly sixteen) areas have been established in Greece through extensive bibliographic search. The occurrences are in mainland northern Greece (Macedonia, Thrace) and in the Greek islands of the Aegean Sea. Most lamprophyre types have been identified, in the form of dikes and occasionally sills, including very rare alkali minettes. In almost all the locations the dikes and sills appear to be the latest products associated with the igneous activity of granitoid plutons. Additionally, in Kozani, lamprophyric rocks were found within an ophiolite complex.
