Sempra Pipelines & Storage has placed Cavern 4 in service at its Bay Gas Storage natural gas storage facility in Alabama, adding 5 billion cubic feet of working gas capacity to the facility

The new cavern is fully subscribed and construction on a fifth cavern is under way, with a planned in-service date of 2012. Bay Gas Cavern 5 will add another 5 Bcf of working gas capacity, bringing total capacity at the facility to 21.4 Bcf. Located 40 miles north of Mobile, Bay Gas Storage has pipeline interconnects with Florida Gas Transmission, Gulf South and Transcontinental Pipeline. Expansion activities at Bay Gas follow the August start-up of Sempra P&S's Mississippi Hub, a high-deliverability salt dome storage facility in Simpson County, Mississippi.
