More than a job and more than a journal: Being professional and having a professional society journal

As readers of the journal, you have already demonstrated personal commitment to your profession and to 'being professional'. Being professional goes beyond having a right-to-practice qualification and maintaining registration so you can do your job. A professional commits to and strives to enact values and behaviours consistent with standards set out in regulation, policy and codes of conduct. These values and behaviours span personal and productive domains of everyday life—private choices may have public consequences for professionals. An occupational therapist who grasps the implications of their professional status knows that the work they do is more than a job.
