I am a second-year children's nursing student but also volunteer with five local and national charities. This work was recognised when I was chosen as the National Union of Students (NUS) student volunteer of the year 2013.I was nominated by my ' student union at Edge Hill University in Lancashire and selected from a shortlist of five. My ￡1,000 prize can be spent on one or more volunteering projects.Since April 2011,1 have devoted 166 hours to more than 400 children as a telephone counsellor for ChildLine. I also spend four hours a week with a boy as part of an Action for Children mentoring scheme. I am a beaver, cub and scout leader, working with 50 children, and also volunteer with Chicks, a charity that provides respite breaks for children.
