In Memoriam: Marcel Vénéroni (1929–2015)

Throughout these studies Sakai was most intrigued by the correspondence among different modes of nuclear collective motion. He then introduced, in 1967, the concept of “quasi rotational bands,” thereby systematizing the band structures across the nuclear chart ranging from vibrational to rotational nuclei. This pursuit for a unified description of collective motion was rewarded by the advent of Interacting Boson Model, which was propounded by Akito Arima and Francesco Iachello in 1975.
