Sound radiation from scroll compressors: its origin and sound reduction methods

Sound emision from refrigeration compressors gains more and more attention. Specially scroll compressors have a reputation of particularly low sound values as an almost intrinsic feature of this compressor design. Applying known measures to the compressor itself allows a reduction of the emitted sound power by 4dBA. An additional 5dBA sound reduction can be achieved without performance and the application limits if sound plankets are used.
