摘要

Faster permitting for drilling projects in the Gulf of Mexico could support 230,000 jobs — one third of which would be outside the Gulf Coast. That was the findings of an IHS Cera/IHS Global Insight study released last week. The study also indicated that faster permitting could add $44 billion to the US gross national product. An additional $22 billion in new wages and compensation would also be realized with employment being impacted from California to Georgia to Illinois to New Jersey. The analysis, based on data from the federal Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement, identified a growing backlog of exploration and development plan applications awaiting approval and a significant reduction in planning and drilling permit approvals.
