Triterpene Glycosides from the Whole Plants of Desmodium styracifolium

A decoction of the whole plants of Desmodium styracifolium (DSBECK) MERR. (Leguminosae) has long been used as a folk medicine for the treatment of cholestylithiasis and urolithiasis in the People's Republic of China. Previously, two new triterpene glycosides with the oleanane skeleton and a new alkaloid, named desmodimene, as well as several flavonoids, were isolated from D. styracifolium. We have now made a further phytochemical screening of the MeOH extract of the whole plants of D. styracifolium and isolated four oleanane type triterpene glycosides.
