Yield risk insurance a reality for 2011

There have been numerous calls to Government for assistance in the introduction of a yield-risk insurance scheme for the nation's grain growers. Following the recent devastating floods experienced throughout many eastern grain growing regions and thedrought conditions experienced in Western Australia, the requirement for a rainfall-based yield risk insurance product could not be higher. For a large number of growers, finding the resources to sow a 2011 crop may be difficult, following the combined effects of recent harvest conditions and the inevitable erosion of farm equity, via traditional crop financing arrangements.
