EPA CUTS 2013 CELLULOSIC BIOFUEL MANDATE

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) revised the 2013 Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) for cellulosic biofuel retroactively. It lowered this mandate to 810,185 gallons in fuel ethanol equivalent from 6 mln as the availability of the fuel in 2013 was far below prior projections. In January, EPA had already agreed to reconsider the mandate, following a petition from US oil industry groups which pegged penalties from the missed original 2013 target at $2.2 mln.
