RED DOUBLE COUNTING PROVISIONS INTRODUCED IN NINE MEMBER STATES

Several EU member states have introduced double counting provisions in their national biofuel legislations, as stipulated by the EU Renewable Energy Directive (RED). Under these provisions, biofuels made from waste or cellulosic feedstock are counted twice against the national biofuel quotas. Member states with double counting rules include Austria, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.
