Ethanol production in July 2010 hit record levels, particularly due to strong output levels at the country's beet distillers, figures by the alcohol market intervention agency BfB (Bundesmonopolverwaltung fur Branntwein) show. The total output was 114.0 mln litres compared with 54.6 mln in June and also above the 97.6 mln achieved in July 2009. This brought production so far in 2010 (Jan/Jul) to 587.5 mln litres compared with 555.1 mln in 2009. Total output in 2009 was around 1 bln litres compared with 815 mln in 2008.
