When the organisers of the Silverstone Classic weekend in July held an online poll to find "the UK's favourite sports car of all time", they were highly gratified that the chequered flag was taken by the Jaguar E-Type, chosen by one of four of the almost 3,000 respondents. It so happened that the E-Type had figured prominently at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, celebrates its 50th birthday this year, figured prominently at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, and was due to feature so prominently at the circuit weekend that the parade of 767 cars got into the Guinness World Records book as the largest ever concours of Jags. A fortuitous poll outcome, then.
