An exploration house has put forward the case that a meteor impact zone on its ground holdings near Meekatharra in Western Australia could represent a potential Sudbury-style nickel target. Impact Minerals Ltd managing director Dr Mike Jones made the comparison during the recent Mining 2009 Resources Convention in Brisbane. In an amusing presentation involving a computer-generated animation of a meteorite smashing into the Earth and splattering parts of its mineral wealth in a broad circumference around a central crater, Dr Jones said the company's ground near Meekatharra - which includes the Quinns Lake and Yarrabubba projects - was originally pegged for nickel based on this unusual geological structure.
