Nuevos registros de flebotominos (Diptera: Psychodidae) y triatominos (Hemiptera: Reduviidae) para Risaralda, Cauca y Valle del Cauca, Colombia

Phlebotomines and triatomines are hematophagous insects. Phlebotomines are vectors to leishmaniases and triatomines are vectors of Chagas'disease or American trypanosomiasis. Using methods such as light traps, human bait, entomological nets and searching in resting places, phlebotomines and triatomines were captured in 12 places (altitudes and ecological formations are given) of the following departamentos (states): Cauca (municipalities: Guapi, Popayán); Risaralda (Guática, La Virginia, Pereira, Pueblo Rico); and Valle del Cauca (Buenaventura, Cali, Calima or Darién). All of the sites were rural, except Cali where collections were made at an urban zone. A total of 21 species or subespecies of phlebotomines and two species of triatomines were obtained. For both groups of insects new records of geographical distribution in Colombia are given. Their relationships with diseases transmission are discussed. © 1997 Corporatión Editora Médica del Valle.
